US embassy confirms Gotabaya renounced citizenship in April 2019!!

The US Embassy in Colombo today confirmed that President Gotabaya Rajapaksa renounced his US citizenship in April 2019.

In response to a query by Daily Mirror, an embassy spokesman said President Rajapaksa was no longer a US citizen.
“I can confirm that Gotabaya Rajapaksa renounced his US citizenship in April 2019. He is no longer a US citizen,” the spokesman said.  
The President’s name appeared in the Federal register that lists out those who renounced the citizenship.  
Normally it takes time for a name of an individual to appear upon renunciation of his citizenship. (Kelum Bandara)
