COVID-19 caseload could pass one million in 100 days

Sri Lanka could face the risk of reporting over one million COVID-19 cases within next 100 days, Health Ministry Spokesman Dr Hemantha Herath said.

He told media that the caseload in the country had been estimated to double every five days.

"Our general calculations suggest that if COVID-19 virus is spread to another person within 5-6 days, the caseload will double every five days,

Accordingly, when the caseload doubles 20 times within 100 days, the caseload will definitely surpass the one million mark," he added.

Sri Lanka currently records an average of 2,300 COVID-19 cases daily. The number of daily infections has surpassed 2,000 mark for the ninth consecutive day as of last evening.
