Cabinet nod to increase PCR test frequency

 

The Cabinet has endorsed a proposal to increase the PCR test frequency and increase the number of hospital beds by 3000 to treat Covid patients, a Minister said.

Co-Cabinet spokesman and Plantation Minister Ramesh Pathirana told the weekly Cabinet press conference that the government has identified the need of increasing the number of PCR tests per day.

“We currently do 20,000 tests a day. The Health Minister sought the approval to increase the facilities to carry out more testing and the approval was given,” he said.

Also, he said that there are reports of exhaustion of hospital beds dedicated to treat Covid patients.
