Navy stop 11 Indian fishing vessels entering Lankan waters!!

The Sri Lanka Navy today halted at least 86 men who were on board eleven Indian fishing vessels from entering the Sri Lankan waters in the seas off Mannar.

The Navy beefed up security in the northwestern and northern waters by increasing 24-hour marine patrols, as there is a risk of a surge in the transmission of COVID pandemic in the country due to possible illegal intrusion using sea routes, the Navy said.

Incidentally, during a similar patrolling mission in the seas south of Mannar, the Navy managed to prevent these 11 Indian fishing vessels, which were suspiciously attempting to intrude into the island’s waters.

Upon informing the Indian High Commission and Indian Coast Guard, arrangements have been made to hand over the 11 Indian fishing vessels and 86 men to Indian authorities for necessary action.

Meanwhile, the Navy said that they will continue to increase surveillance mission in the northwestern and northern waters to prevent such illegal intrusion by sea.
