No chance of catching fish from the area, NARA

While saying that deaths of marine species could be expected as the debris, containing chemicals has mixed with the sea water, the National Aquatic Resources Research and Development Agency (NARA) said they had taken steps to stop fishing in the adjoining area.

Speaking to Daily Mirror, NARA Chairman Professor A. Navaratnerajah said that fishing could only continue through the Multi-day boats, which were located in some other places and not near the fire engulfed vessel.

“We have deployed our experts to the area where the incident has happened in order to inspect and assess the damage caused to the marine species and plants,” Prof. Navaratnerajah.

“There is definitely a huge threat to the marine flora and fauna in the adjoining area. We are currently monitoring and assessing the damage caused to the flora and fauna,” he said.

He proceeded to say it would take a little time for them to determine the whole damage caused to flora and fauna and added that they would do continuous monitoring.
