Two buses at same time for long distance services from today!!

 

The Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) to operate two buses simultaneously during peak hours on long-distance routes from today to accommodate commuters to seating capacity and maintaining social distance, Transport State Minister Dilum Amunugama said.

There is a scarcity of buses operating on the roads because the drivers and conductors have expressed fears of being infected with the coronavirus.

Due to the lack of buses on the road, people used to get into the buses and exceeding seating capacity.

Therefore, the Ministry has decided to assign two buses for distance services at a given time during office hours and peak hours, the State Minister said.

There is a capability of increasing the number of buses based on the requests made by the people,  the Minister said.

Meanwhile, Lanka Private Bus Owners' Association (LPBOA) Chairman Gemunu Wijeratne said only 25% of the buses are on the road at present.
