Additional buses to ease congestion caused by train strike

Additional Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) buses have been assigned to facilitate the passengers who are affected due to the current train strike, SLTB Chairman Kingsley Ranawaka said.

He stated that he had advised the deport managers to allocate buses based on the needs of the passengers.

Meanwhile, the Locomotive Engine Operators’ Union (LEOU) has decided to engage in a one-day Trade Union (TU) action against awarding of a project to a foreign company to issue electronic train tickets.

LEOU Secretary Indika Dodangoda said several discussions were held with the concerned authorities, but no favourable response was received.

The TU action started at 8.00 am today.

"Over the past few months, we have been continually informing the President and other senior government officials, the Railway Department and the Ministry of Transport.

A major financial fraudster has been imprisoned for the time being. "Approximately US$28 million has been spent on project feasibility  through the loan from the Asian Development Bank (ADB)," he said.
