Nurses’ TU action continues for second day

The 48-hour sick leave campaign launched by nurses in state hospitals is continuing for the second day today.

Government Nursing Officers Association Chairman Saman Rathnapriya said they have not received any positive response from the health authorities for their demands so far.

He said they were ready to call off their trade union action at any time if they were called for an official meeting with health authorities to discuss their grievances.

"We have not received any invitation for a formal discussion so far. We will continue our trade union action till 7.00 am tomorrow," he said.

He said if the Government has failed to submit the Cabinet Paper with regard to the promotions for the nurses and five-day-work-week by next Monday, they would resort to island-wide trade union action.

"Cabinet Papers pertaining to promotions and five-day-work-week have already been signed. They can be submitted to the Cabinet next week. We can discuss other demands afterwards ," he said.
