Three nabbed with handcuffs for robbing impersonating as cops

 

Three men impersonating themselves as policemen were arrested in Wattala in connection with abductions, robberies and snatch theft cases along with handcuffs.

Police Spokesman SDIG Ajith Rohana said that investigations began after police received complaints about 17 such robberies.

The suspects, residents of Sedawatte, Kurunegala and Wattala were found in possession of fake identity cards to impersonate as policemen.

The suspects told several people that they were policemen, handcuffed and took them to a certain place to robbed their gold jewelery and/or money.

The spokesman said that three-wheeler drivers and motorcyclists were the most targeted victims.

Police have recovered, 40g of gold jewellery, two motorcycles and two handcuffs from the possession of the suspects.

The suspects to be produced in court for an identification parade.
