Booster shots if required

  








Health authorities are taking steps to administer booster shots (third dose) if required. The matter was discussed at a crucial meeting held yesterday (Friday) with the participation of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa.

It was noted that the Government is prepared to administer the booster shot to those who have been fully vaccinated.

The Government is also preparing to acquire booster shots to administer to the most vulnerable groups, if the need arises.

Pfizer data suggested recently that a third dose of Covid19 vaccine ‘strongly’ boosts protection against the Delta variant.

Israel began administering COVID vaccine booster doses to the immunosuppressed last month, and rolled them out to all Israelis over age 60 on Sunday.

Hungary was the first EU country to offer booster jabs while the US is also preparing to give the third dose to a portion of the population.

Germany intends to give boosters to immunocompromised patients, the very elderly and nursing home residents from September.

France was also working on rolling out third doses to the elderly and vulnerable from September.
