Normal train schedule from tomorrow after 20 months: SLRSMU

The Railways Department will operate trains according to the normal train schedule from tomorrow after 20 months, Sri Lanka Railway Station Masters' Union (SLRSMU) said.

They said the last normal train schedule was operated in March 2020 prior to the COVID-19 epidemic in the country.

During the COVID pandemic, trains were operated according to a special schedule, restricting train travel following certain health recommendations imposed by the Railways Department.

Although arrangements were made to operate the normal train schedule from today, only a few long-distance trains have been added to the service and all other postal train services except the Galle Maradana night mail train will no longer be operational.

Arrangements have been made to resume parcel transport service from today. The railway seat and restroom reservations have been started as the train services have been restored.

The SLRSMU urged the commuters to follow the guidelines recommended by the Health Department when using passenger trains as the risk of covid has not gone away.
