Duo caught while transporting Kerala marijuana under the guise of fish

 Two suspects were arrested while transporting 154 kg of Kerala marijuana worth over Rs. 40 million under the pretext of transporting fish from Jaffna to Colombo in the Omanthai area in Vavuniya last evening, police said.

The contraband of marijuana was found hidden inside the containers where the fish were stored.

The Army and Policemen who were manning a road block on the A9 Road apprehended the suspects. Accordingly, the driver, another person and the lorry were taken into their custody.

The search operations have been tightened to thwart illegal transportation of Kerala marijuana from North to South.

The arrestees are residents of Colombo and are to be produced before the Vavuniya Magistrate's Court.

Further investigations are underway by the Omanthai police.
