Govt. to spend Rs. 85,000 mn for rural development next year: Amaraweera!!
The government will spend Rs. 85,000 million next year targeting rural development, Environment Minister Mahinda Amaraweera said.
The government has instructed that all the money should be spent on livelihood development projects, Amaraweera said.
While addressing a public meeting held at Angunakolapelessa yesterday he said the funds were allocated in the last budget.
"The President has launched a program to provide 100,000 jobs to uplift the economic status of unemployed and low-income families. Today appointments are made to such recruits. Our main objective as a government is to improve the livelihood development of the people. To this end, this year's budget has allocated Rs. 85,000 million for regional development. All this money is spent on the livelihood development of the people," he said.
Meanwhile, the minister said that the government has also decided to restrict the import of non-essential goods. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
