Minister instructs to remove restrictions on tourist boats visiting Mirissa

 

Tourism Minister Prasanna Ranatunga has instructed the authorities to take steps to lift the restrictions imposed by the Wildlife Department on boat owners who takes passengers for whale wathing in Mirissa.

It was reported that the Wildlife Department had recently imposed restrictions on whale watching vessels off the coast of Mirissa.

During a meeting with the minister, the owners of the Mirissa whale watching boats raised their concerns and pointed out that wildlife officials only allow whale watching after 2 pm.

The Minister instructed the authorities to lift the restrictions and also to ensure that tourists watching wales are not disturbed and that the whales are not harmed.
