More office trains on track this evening: GMR!!

More trains are to be assigned to facilitate the office crowd and those who arrived this morning by train, the Railways General Manager, J.I.D. Jayasundara said.

He told the Daily Mirror that trade union action is continuing but the need to run office trains deemed vital.

Two trains to Jaffna, Kandy, and Chillaw tomorrow, while increasing the number of train services.

Some 85 office trains were operated today, and this was the highest number to operate during trade union action, he said.

"Several railway staff have stayed away from work, and therefore sudden measures had to be taken to cancel certain trains, including bookings. We have requested the additional staff. As soon as we could see the additional staff return to work, all issues relating to the trains will be resolved, " he said.

"The bookings that have been made for long distance journey, will be refunded. The Railway Station Masters' Union (RSMU) had inconvenienced the commuters. This is a sabotage act and general public should not be treated in this manner,"he said.

The railway department, on the other hand, would  increase the number of trains operating tomorrow. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
