The question of going to the IMF would not have arisen if there was financial discipline, one time Minister of Finance Ravi Karunanayake said.

What should be done is to decide on the best option available and to implement it in the most effective manner, Mr Karunanayake told journalists .

He said what is best for the country is not price formulas but price stability.

Also he said there is a mafia in several sectors which prevent development.

"The power sector crisis is brought about by this mafia. I also confronted this mafia when I was the minister in charge of power," he said. (Yohan Perera)
