SJB considers Arab Spring type protests!!

The Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) said today that it will go for an Arab Spring after giving an ultimatum for the government to resolve the present economic crisis.

SJB MP Harin Fernando told a press conference that his party will give an ultimatum of one month to the government to resolve the economic crisis and then launch an Arab spring type of protests to overthrow the government.

“We shall officially announce our decision to give an ultimatum of one month to the government and our decision to go for Arab Spring type of protest during the protest fixed for Tuesday. We will come to Colombo and march in search of the President. We will march towards wherever the President will be and give him an ultimatum,” the MP said.

“We invite all parties including the JVP to join us without criticizing us,” he added.

“Our effort is to do everything possible democratically to topple the government,” he said at the same time.

Asked about bringing an impeachment motion against the President as proposed by some political parties , Mr. Fernando said such an action had become necessary. “ Our Parliamentary group will see about it but I feel that it is a time consuming affair. One wonders whether we have time to spend,” he said. (Yohan Perera)
