Cannot stop struggle through suppression: NPP
While condemning the attack on Galle Face protesters, the National People's Power (NPP) said today the struggle which is prevalent throughout the country cannot be ended through suppression and urged everyone to come foward to expel President Ranil Wickremesinghe and the entire Parliament.
JVP General Secretary Tilvin Silva told a news conference that the protesters were attacked when they were gradually withdrawing from places where they have been occupying.
"This attack should be condemned by the whole world. People must make sure that this is the first and the last attack by Ranil Wickremesinghe. He, who got the Premiership by chance and then got elected as the President with the blessing of Rajapaksas, is not protecting people but the Rajapaksas," he charged.
Mr. Silva said Mr. Wickremesinghe is serving the Rajapaksas, who lost positions due to the struggle and added that what the Rajapaksas wanted was to take revenge from strugglers.
"Ranil Wickremesinghe has undertaken that contract. We reiterate that if they are trying to suppress the public struggle by intimidation without resolving their issues, such moves will never materialise," he said.
He said the NPP would intervene to take foward the struggle until a government is formed ensuring people's sovereignty.
