Joseph Stalin granted bail

 

General Secretary of Ceylon Teachers Union Joseph Stalin held in remand custody for allegedly violating a court order was yesterday ordered to be released on bail by Colombo Fort Magistrate's Court.

 Accordingly, trade union leader Stalin was ordered to be released on two sureties of Rs.500,000 by Colombo Fort Magistrate Thilina Gamage. 

 

Initially, Stalin had been remanded till August 12 by the Magistrate's Court for allegedly violating a court order while engaged in a protest at Bank of Ceylon Mawatha last May 28.

 

However, lawyers appeared on behalf of Joseph Stalin had filed a motion on last Friday (5) requesting an early date in order to support a fresh bail application.

 

President's Counsel Saliya Pieris appeared on behalf of the suspect.
