Blood sample of Asoka Ranwala sent to Govt. Analyst

The blood sample report of former Speaker and NPP MP Asoka Ranwala, who was involved in a road accident in Sapugaskanda last week, has been sent to the Government Analyst’s Department (GAD) for official analysis to determine whether he was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident, the Daily Mirror learns.

When contacted regarding the status of the alcohol test, police said the blood sample had been forwarded to the Government Analyst’s Department by the Sapugaskanda Police.

Sri Lanka Police came under heavy criticism for failing to conduct a breathalyser test on former Speaker and NPP MP Asoka Ranwala immediately after his jeep was involved in the accident on Thursday night in Sapugaskanda. The accident occurred when his jeep collided with a car in the Denimulla area.

A 25-year-old woman, her six-month-old infant, and her 55-year-old mother, who were travelling in the car, sustained injuries and were hospitalized. Sapugaskanda Police have launched an investigation into the incident and taken both vehicles into custody. A motorcycle believed to be connected to the accident has also been taken into police custody as part of the investigation.
