Coast Guard seizes Rs. 370 Mn worth of narcotics in 2025

The Sri Lanka Coast Guard (SLCG), with the assistance of other law enforcement agencies, has seized illegal narcotics valued at over Rs. 370 million and arrested 71 suspects during anti-drug operations carried out in 2025.
The operations were conducted in close coordination with the Sri Lanka Navy, Sri Lanka Police, Police Narcotics Bureau, State Intelligence Service, and the Police Special Task Force, through continuous intelligence sharing and joint enforcement action.
As a result, significant quantities of illegal substances were seized, including over 5 kilograms of ICE (crystal methamphetamine), more than 710 kilograms of Kerala cannabis, over 205 kilograms of locally grown cannabis, more than 2 kilograms of hashish, 970 pregabalin capsules, 5,054 Madana Modaka pills, 2,933 foreign cigarettes, and over 9,800 kilograms of Kendu leaves.
In addition, 60,794 packets and bottles of agricultural chemicals that were being illegally smuggled into the country via sea routes were also taken into custody.
During these operations, 19 local boats used for smuggling activities were seized. All 71 suspects arrested in connection with these offenses have been handed over to the relevant authorities for further legal action.
