GovPay surpasses Rs. 2 billion in transactions
GovPay, Sri Lanka’s government digital payment platform, surpassed Rs. 2 billion in total transaction value, the Ministry of Digital Economy said.
The ministry said the platform doubled its collections from Rs. 1 billion to Rs. 2 billion in just 45 days.
Since its official launch on 7 February 2025, GovPay has processed more than 69,000 digital transactions, enabling payments for 3,372 government services across 215 public institutions. Implemented under the leadership of the Ministry of Digital Economy by the Information and Communication Technology Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA), in collaboration with LankaPay, GovPay has emerged as a key component of Sri Lanka’s digital public infrastructure.
One of the platform’s major achievements in 2025 was the launch of the online traffic fine payment system in April, which has since facilitated over 50,000 payments and generated more than Rs. 66 million in revenue. While adverse weather delayed a nationwide rollout, authorities plan to complete island-wide implementation by January 2026.
GovPay has also expanded across local authorities and supported disaster relief efforts, including digital donations to the Rebuild Sri Lanka Disaster Relief Fund. With continued enhancements planned, GovPay is expected to play a central role in advancing transparency, efficiency, and financial inclusion as Sri Lanka targets a USD 15 billion digital economy by 2030.
