Sri Lanka Coast Guard rescues 10 tourists from drowning

 






 The Sri Lanka Coast Guard (SLCG) rescued ten local and foreign tourists from drowning during lifesaving operations conducted across several coastal regions from 24th to 27th December 2025.

The rescues took place off popular beaches including Mount Lavinia, Balapitiya, Mirissa, and Nilaweli. Seven of those rescued were foreign nationals from Russia, Ukraine, and Jordan, while three were local tourists, aged between 14 and 50 years.

Since its establishment in 2009, the Coast Guard has saved over 2,500 lives, including 1,160 foreign nationals, highlighting its critical role in ensuring safety along Sri Lanka’s shores.
