Where does plantation community fit into government’s disaster relief matrix?: Mano!!
Colombo, Dec. 11 (Daily Mirror) - Tamil Progressive Alliance (TPA) leader Mano Ganesan today took to the government's disaster relief matrix and questioned how the plantation community fits into it.
“I acknowledge the relief allowances announced by President Anura Kumra Dissanayake on December 5, the final day of the Budget debate. I chose not to join the opposition walkout, opting instead to hear the President out in good faith. However, I still don’t see where the most marginalised plantation community fits into the relief matrix,” Ganesan said in his X message.
“Wherever I walk, the roads collapse behind me across the hilly terrain of Kandy district, Alugolla division and Nawalapitiya, I see that the state’s operational footprint hasn’t reached these areas, and plantation-worker families remain literally buried under the landslide soil,” he said.
“The districts hardest hit by fatalities are Kandy, Nuwara Eliya and Badulla-tell a story that keeps expanding. Our international partners and development stakeholders who consistently back Sri Lanka need to place the country’s most vulnerable communities at the top of their priority stack,” the MP also said.
