CID arrests two suspects in Rs. 50 Mn textile scam

 

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has arrested two suspects in connection with the fraudulent theft of textile raw materials valued at nearly Rs. 50 million from a private factory in Kilinochchi.

Police said that the theft had taken place over a prolonged period between March 18, 2024, and May 29, 2025. The arrests were made yesterday by a special team of CID officers following an investigation into the incident.

The suspects, aged 27 and 36, are identified as residents of the Mawanella and Getahetta areas.

They will be produced before the Kilinochchi Magistrate’s Court today.
