Police warn of rising extortion racket involving secret video recordings

 

Police said complaints regarding video recording of sexual relations of married women and their paramours, and young men and women, to extort them under threat of sharing the videos on websites have been increasing.

OIC of Information Technology and Computer Crime Investigation in Galle K.K.R. Alwis said advanced technology cameras are used by the perpetrators to record videos secretly.

“These cameras are hidden in the shirt collars, as a pen in the pocket or inside beds at lodges. The sexual relations of individuals with their mistresses and of young lovers are secretly recorded and released on the websites. Quite often, young men who take women they are in love with to lodges and video record the nude scenes of the young woman and use them to extort her.”

“Recently, a 45-year-old woman, whose husband is employed abroad, fell in love with an employee in a bakery. He had video-recorded their sexual relations secretly. She has complained to the police that he is now extorting her under threat of sharing the scenes on the websites.”

“In a similar incident, an exorcist who undertook to cure a sick child through incantations had stayed at the house, had frightened the woman that she was under the malefic planetary influence and under the pretext of performing rites to dispel it, lured her to enjoy sex with him. Her husband is employed abroad. The exorcist who secretly video recorded the senses is now taxing the woman abroad,” the police officer said.

He requested young women to be cautious when they keep company with their lovers and warned the married women of the danger facing them due to their clandestine relations with paramours.
