Man dies after jumping from moving police jeep: Two cops suspended

 

A Sub Inspector and a Sergeant attached to the Panadura North Police were suspended with immediate effect following the incident in which a man has died after jumping out of a moving police jeep.

Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said the officers were suspended for having been negligent and failed to act with responsibility when taking the suspect.

In addition, a disciplinary inquiry is being conducted as per instructions of a Superintendent of Police, the spokesman said.

The 42-year-old man who was being taken to the police station for violating quarantine rules, died after jumping out of the moving police jeep yesterday.

The suspect was arrested yesterday for violating quarantine and traffic laws.
