Showers expected in several areas; Public urged to take precautions

A few showers are expected to occur in parts of the Northern, Eastern and Uva provinces, as well as in the Polonnaruwa, Matale and Nuwara Eliya districts, according to the latest weather forecast.

The Department of Meteorology said that showers or thundershowers will also occur at a few locations in the Galle, Matara, Ratnapura and Kalutara districts after 2.00 p.m.

Fairly strong winds, reaching speeds of around 40 kmph, can be expected at times over the eastern slopes of the central hills, the Northern Province, and in the Hambantota and Monaragala districts.

Meanwhile, misty conditions are likely at some places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces, as well as in the Badulla, Galle and Matara districts during the early hours of the morning.

The general public has been advised to take adequate precautions to minimize possible damage caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning associated with thundershowers.
