Australian journalist robbed in Unawatuna; Suspect arrested
The Unawatuna Tourist Police have arrested a suspect in connection with the theft of a handbag belonging to an Australian journalist near a restaurant along the Unawatuna beach.
Police said the young woman, who had arrived in Sri Lanka on a visit, had reported that her handbag was stolen while she was at the location.
The stolen bag reportedly contained an iPhone mobile phone, foreign currency, and bank cards.
Following a complaint lodged with the Unawatuna Tourist Police today (04), the suspect was taken into custody.
The arrested suspect is scheduled to be produced before the Galle Magistrate’s Court tomorrow (05).
