Namal urges education minister to resign over controversial module
Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) National Organizer and Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa has called for Education Minister Harini Amarasuriya to resign over the controversial Grade 6 English module, stating that the responsibility lies with her rather than any ministry official.
Addressing journalists, Rajapaksa said that the head of the National Institute of Education has resigned over the incident and that the head of the investigation committee was appointed by the Prime Minister. Since the Prime Minister oversees the ministry, he argued, Minister Amarasuriya should step down.
He also criticized the printing process of the module, saying that “an outsider cannot print the book.”
Commenting on the Ministry Secretary’s actions, Rajapaksa described it as “a joke” that a complaint was filed with the Criminal Investigation Department. He further emphasized that no one can mislead the Ministry Secretary and that decisions regarding subjects or curricula cannot be made by a single individual.
Rajapaksa highlighted that both the Minister in charge and the Ministry Secretary are fully aware of the decisions being made, and therefore, accountability rests with Minister Harini Amarasuriya.
