Coconut oil price rises by Rs. 100: National Consumers’ Front

The price of a bottle of coconut oil has risen by about Rs. 100 in the past two weeks, National Consumers’ Front (NCF) Chairman Asela Sampath said.

Speaking to the Daily Mirror, Sampath said the price of coconut oil now ranges between Rs. 1,320 and Rs. 1,420, while the cost of coconuts themselves is also increasing. He further noted that the price of vegetable oil has risen, but questioned which vegetables are responsible for this surge.

“Although the increase in coconut oil prices is due to the rising cost of coconuts, the government must clarify the reason for the rise in vegetable oil prices. Which type of vegetable is being used to produce it?” Sampath challenged, calling on the Ministry of Trade to provide an immediate explanation to the public.
