German investors arrive to explore new technical college in Sri Lanka

 

 

group of German investors arrived in Sri Lanka to via the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) , Katunayake, to explore the establishment of a state-of-the-art technical college similar to the existing German Technical College currently operating in the country.

The visit follows preliminary discussions held with President of Sri Lanka during his recent official visit to Germany, where the proposed investment was initially discussed. The arrival of the delegation marks a continuation of those talks.

The six-member German investor delegation is led by Professor Thomas Holdner and is scheduled to remain in Sri Lanka for a period of 14 days to hold meetings and assess project feasibility.

In addition to plans for a new technical college, the group is also exploring a programme to recruit and train Sri Lankan women for employment as nurses in Germany. With nearly 65 per cent of Germany’s population being elderly, there is a growing demand for caregivers. Under the proposed project, selected Sri Lankan nurses are expected to earn a monthly salary of around 2,000 euros, equivalent to approximately Rs. 700,000.

The delegation arrived in Sri Lanka at around 10.00 a.m. on Qatar Airways flight QR-660 from Doha. They were received at the airport by Jayadeva Sudusinghe, a Sri Lankan academic working in the tourism sector in Germany.
