Substandard vehicle spare parts worth nearly Rs. 5 mn seized in Kadawatha raid!!
The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) has seized a stock of vehicle spare parts and lubricants worth nearly Rs. 5 million during a raid on a shop along the Kadawatha-Ganemulla Road.
Officers of the CAA’s Competition Promotion Division conducted the raid at a shop located in the School Mawatha area following information that substandard vehicle spare parts and lubricants were being sold and stored there.
The raid was carried out over several alleged offences, including selling and storing lubricants and vehicle spare parts in violation of Consumer Affairs Authority Orders No. 85 and 88, as well as failing to display the prices of the products.
The seized goods have been sealed by CAA officers, while samples have been collected for further investigations.
Further investigations are underway, and legal action will be taken against the shop owner and relevant sales representatives if the alleged offences are confirmed.
The CAA has urged consumers to exercise caution when purchasing vehicle spare parts and lubricants and to check the prices, condition and relevant standards of products before making purchases.
The public can provide information on shops suspected of selling substandard vehicle spare parts, lubricants or other products by contacting the CAA consumer hotline 1977 during office hours.
