‘Summitpura Chatu’ brought back to Sri Lanka from Oman!!

Kankanamlage Dimuthu Chaturanga Perera, also known as “Summitpura Chatu” or “Modara Chatu,” an alleged organised crime figure wanted by Sri Lankan authorities, was brought back to Sri Lanka from Oman in the early hours of Tuesday (18) and handed over to the Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) for further investigations.

According to law enforcement sources, Chaturanga was arrested by police authorities in Oman based on a pending Interpol Red Notice before being deported to Sri Lanka.

The suspect, a resident of Summitpura in Modara (Mattakkuliya), is reported to have fled Sri Lanka for Oman on March 22, 2025, allegedly using a forged passport.

Authorities have identified him as a key suspect in several serious criminal investigations in Sri Lanka, including the alleged assassination of underworld figure Ganemulla Sanjeewa.

Following his deportation from Muscat, Chaturanga arrived at Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Katunayake, where he was taken into the custody of Sri Lankan law enforcement officers.

He was subsequently transported to the CCD under heavy security for questioning and further investigations into his alleged involvement in organised criminal activities and other high-profile offences. Pix by T.K.G. Kapila
