COMPLAINT LODGED WITH THE CID AGAINST THE SPEAKER

Representatives of several civil societies lodged a complaint with the Criminal Investigation Department against the speaker alleging him of attempting to produce forged documents in order to mislead the President.

The representatives through their complaint had urged legal action to be taken against the speaker.

On the last 14th, the speaker forwarded a letter to the President stating that a no-confidence motion was passed in parliament against Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa.

Together with the letter, the speaker had forwarded an annex containing signatures of MPs who were in favour of the no-confidence motion.

The President in his response to the speaker’s letter emphasized that the date of the annex containing signatures of parliamentarians, has been altered.
