சங்கீதனை உடனடியாக விடுதலை செய்ய கனடியத் தமிழர் பேரவை கோரிக்கை !

 உடனடி வெளியீட்டிற்கு இலங்கையில் கருத்துச் சுதந்திரத்தின் மீதான தொடர் ஒடுக்குமுறையைக் கண்டிப்பதுடன், துள்ளிசைக் கலைஞர் சங்கீதனை உடனடியாக விடுதலை செய்ய கனடியத் தமிழர் பேரவை கோரிக்கை விடுத்துள்ளது.

இலங்கையின் பயங்கரவாதத் தடைச் சட்டத்தின் (PTA) கீழ், 'ஹிப்-ஹாப் சங்கீ' (Hip-Hop Sangee) என்று பரவலாக அறியப்படும் தமிழ்ப் பாடகர் கணேஷ் குமார் சங்கீதன் கைது செய்யப்பட்டதை கனடியத் தமிழர் பேரவை (CTC) வன்மையாகக் கண்டிப்பதுடன், அவரை எவ்வித நிபந்தனையுமின்றி உடனடியாக விடுதலை செய்யுமாறு கோருகிறது.

இந்தக் கைது நடவடிக்கையானது இலங்கையின் கருத்துச் சுதந்திரம், ஜனநாயகப் பங்களிப்பு, மற்றும் சட்டத்தின் ஆட்சி ஆகியவற்றிற்கு விடுக்கப்பட்ட கடுமையான அச்சுறுத்தலாகும். அண்மையில் தமிழ் கவிஞரும் எழுத்தாளருமான தீபச்செல்வன் பிரதீபனின் ஐந்து புத்தகங்கள் பறிமுதல் செய்யப்பட்டதைத் தொடர்ந்து இக்கைது இடம்பெற்றுள்ளமை, மாற்றுக் கருத்துக்கள் மற்றும் சுதந்திரமான பேச்சுரிமை மீது அதிகரித்து வரும் ஒடுக்குமுறைப் போக்கை வெளிப்படுத்துகிறது.

தன்னிச்சையான கைதுகள், குற்றச்சாட்டுகள் இன்றிய நீண்டகாலத் தடுப்புக்காவல் என்பன முறையான சட்ட நடைமுறை மீறல்களுக்கு வழிவகுப்பதாக ஐக்கிய நாடுகள் சபை, சர்வதேச மனித உரிமை அமைப்புகள் மற்றும் ஜனநாயக நாடுகளால் நீண்டகாலமாக விமர்சிக்கப்பட்டுவரும் பயங்கரவாதத் தடைச் சட்டத்தை இலங்கை அரசாங்கம் தொடர்ந்து பயன்படுத்தி வருவதையிட்டு கனடியத் தமிழர் பேரவை தனது ஆழந்த கவலையைத் தெரிவித்துக் கொள்கிறது.

சங்கீதனின் கைது மற்றும் தீபச்செல்வனின் புத்தகங்களுக்கு விதிக்கப்பட்ட தடை ஆகியன, இலங்கையில் சுருங்கி வரும் ஜனநாயகக் கட்டமைப்பு குறித்தும், தமிழ் அரசியல் வெளிப்பாடுகள், அறிவுசார் கலந்துரையாடல்கள் மற்றும் அமைதியான செயல்பாடுகள் தொடர்ந்து இலக்கு வைக்கப்படுவது குறித்தும் கடுமையான கவலைகளை எழுப்பியுள்ளன.

"ஒரு ஜனநாயக சமூகத்தின் அடிப்படைத் தூண் கருத்துச் சுதந்திரம் ஆகும். அமைதியான முறையில் குரல் எழுப்பும் தனிநபர்களைக் கைது செய்வதும், வெளியிடப்பட்ட நூல்களை முடக்குவதும் சர்வதேச மனித உரிமைச் சட்டத்தின் கீழ் உத்தரவாதம் அளிக்கப்பட்ட அடிப்படை உரிமைகளைப் பலவீனப்படுத்துவதோடு, இலங்கையின் உண்மையான நல்லிணக்கம் மற்றும் ஜனநாயக முன்னேற்றத்திற்கான வாய்ப்புகளையும் சீர்குலைக்கிறது" என கனடியத் தமிழர் பேரவையின் தலைவர் சிறீதரன் துரைராஜா தெரிவித்தார்.

கனடியத் தமிழர் பேரவை பின்வரும் கோரிக்கைகளை முன்வைக்கிறது:

• இலங்கை அரசாங்கம் சங்கீதனை உடனடியாக விடுதலை செய்து அவரது அடிப்படை உரிமைகளும் சுதந்திரங்களும் முழுமையாகப் பாதுகாக்கப்படுவதை உறுதி செய்ய வேண்டும்.

• இலங்கை அரசாங்கம் தீபச்செல்வனின் இன்னும் வெளியிடப்படாத இரண்டு புத்தகங்கள் மீதான நடவடிக்கைகள் உட்பட, வெளியீடுகள் மற்றும் கருத்து வெளிப்பாடுகள் மீதான கட்டுப்பாடுகளை நீக்க வேண்டும். அத்துடன் சிந்தனை, கருத்து மற்றும் வெளிப்பாட்டுச் சுதந்திரத்திற்கான உரிமைகளை நிலைநாட்ட வேண்டும்.

• இலங்கை அரசாங்கம் பயங்கரவாதத் தடைச் சட்டத்தை (PTA) நீக்கி, அதற்குப் பதிலாக சர்வதேச மனித உரிமைத் தரங்களுக்கு முழுமையாகக் கட்டுப்படும் புதிய சட்டத்தை இயற்ற வேண்டும்.

• கனடா அரசாங்கம் பயங்கரவாதத் தடைச் சட்டம் தவறாகப் பயன்படுத்தப்படுவதைப் பகிரங்கமாகக் கண்டிக்க வேண்டும்; சங்கீதனை உடனடியாக விடுதலை செய்யக் கோர வேண்டும்; மேலும் அர்த்தமுள்ள மனித உரிமைச் சீர்திருத்தங்கள் மற்றும் ஜனநாயகச் சுதந்திரங்களை ஊக்குவிக்க இலங்கை அதிகாரிகளுடன் பேச்சுவார்த்தை நடத்த வேண்டும்.

• ஐக்கிய நாடுகள் மனித உரிமைகள் பேரவை மற்றும் ஜனநாயகப் பண்புள்ள நட்பு நாடுகள் உள்ளிட்ட சர்வதேச சமூகம், இந்த நிலவரங்களை உன்னிப்பாகக் கண்காணித்து, இலங்கையில் பொதுமக்கள் உரிமைகள், கருத்துச் சுதந்திரம் மற்றும் சட்டத்தின் ஆட்சி ஆகியவற்றைப் பாதுகாப்பதற்காகக் குரல் கொடுக்க வேண்டும்.

Canadian Tamil Congress Calls for Immediate Release of hip-hop artist Sangeethan and Condemns Continued Assault on Freedom of Expression in Sri Lanka

Toronto, Ontario – June 7,2026 - The Canadian Tamil Congress (CTC) strongly condemns the arrest of Tamil singer Ganesh Kumar Sangeethan, widely known by his stage name Hip-Hop Sangee, under Sri Lanka’s Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA) and calls for his immediate and unconditional release.

This arrest represents a serious threat to freedom of expression, democratic participation, and the rule of law in Sri Lanka. It is particularly alarming as it follows the recent confiscation of five books authored by Tamil poet and storyteller Theepachelvan Piratheepan, further demonstrating an escalating pattern of restrictions on free speech and dissenting voices.

The Canadian Tamil Congress is deeply concerned that the Sri Lankan government continues to rely on the Prevention of Terrorism Act—a law that has long been criticized by the United Nations, international human rights organizations, and democratic governments for enabling arbitrary detention, prolonged incarceration without charge, and violations of due process.

The arrest of Sangeethan, coupled with the prohibition of Theepachelvan’s books, raises profound concerns about the shrinking democratic space in Sri Lanka and the continued targeting of Tamil political expression, intellectual discourse, and peaceful activism.

“Freedom of expression is a cornerstone of any democratic society. The arrest of individuals for peaceful advocacy and the suppression of published works undermine the fundamental rights guaranteed under international human rights law and weaken prospects for genuine reconciliation and democratic progress in Sri Lanka” said Sritharan Thurairajah, president of CTC.

The Canadian Tamil Congress calls upon:

1. The Government of Sri Lanka to immediately release Sangeethan and ensure that his fundamental rights and freedoms are fully protected.

2. The Government of Sri Lanka to lift restrictions on publications and expression, including actions taken against Theepachelvan’s two books that remain unreleased, and uphold the right to freedom of thought, opinion, and expression.

3. The Government of Sri Lanka to repeal the Prevention of Terrorism Act and replace it with legislation that fully complies with international human rights standards.

4. The Government of Canada to publicly condemn the misuse of the PTA, call for Sangeethan’s immediate release, and engage with Sri Lankan authorities to promote meaningful human rights reforms and democratic freedoms.

5. The international community, including the United Nations Human Rights Council and democratic partner nations, to closely monitor these developments and advocate for the protection of civil liberties, freedom of expression, and the rule of law in Sri Lanka.
